Nick Castellanos Felt He'd Sign With Miami Until Derek Jeter Resigned

Apr 16, 2022 5:13 PM

There was mutual interest between the Miami Marlins and Nick Castellanos this offseason.

The outfielder felt he'd end up signing with the Marlins, his hometown club, until Derek Jeter resigned as the team's CEO.

Castellanos ended up signing with the Philadelphia Phillies.

It has been rumored that Jeter expected ownership to spend more money this offseason. When he stepped down, Jeter cited a "vision for the future of the franchise" that no longer seemed to prevail within the organization.

Castellanos told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald that Jeter wanted to sign him.

The Pittsburgh Pirates don't have a recent history of success, but Ke'Bryan Hayes is thrilled to be a part of the franchise's future.

Yankees Never Made Offers To Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman

"We never made an official offer to Correa or Freeman, but we were in touch with their reps on what they were looking for," Cashman said on WFAN in New York.

The Yankees have a reported payroll of $262.1 million, a franchise record, but well south of the Los Angeles Dodgers ($292.9M) and Mets ($285.9M).
